Parapan Am Closing Ceremony

ABORIGINAL CULTURE PROUDLY SHOWCASED DURING PARAPAN AM OPENING CEREMONY

The Mississaugas of the New Credit were proud to be in attendance to support their band members as they performed during the Parapan Am Games Opening Ceremony. The Parapan Am Games will welcome over 1,600 athletes from 28 countries during a week of an exciting display of athleticism and commitment of our Parapan athletes.

The phrase¬†‘paratough‘ had been used in social media to build excitement for the games and to describe the enormous dedication of the athletes competing during the Parapan Am games. Chief Bryan LaForme was scheduled to address the pre-show of the Parapan Am Opening and chose to also highlight the the commitment of the Parapan Am athletes and their resilience, “To go beyond expectations is part of the human condition – No matter our nation, language or customs. The Parapan Am Games became a reality in 1999 with one thousand athletes from 18 countries participating in four sports. The door was opened for those considered ‘disabled’ to go beyond expectations, take up the struggle, overcome challenges that able-bodied people can’t imagine. This had led us to Toronto 2015, the biggest Parapan Am Games ever.”

The Pan Am Games Secretariat, on behalf of the Mississaugas of the New Credit, wishes our Parapan athletes the best during the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games!
