On February 19th, 2015 the Mississauga Nations met in Toronto at the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs to discuss key areas of potential partnership and involvement with the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games.
The Mississauga Nations attending were: Alderville First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation, Mississauga #8 First Nation and the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation (Host First Nation for the Games). Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation sent regrets.
They met with Ontario Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Zimmer and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Michael Coteau. Minister Coteau announced that Ontario will bid for the 2017 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) and that his Ministry would support the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation as Host First Nation should Toronto win the bid.
Doug Devlin, CN Manager of Tribal Aboriginal Affairs, offered CN support for the 2017 NAIG bid.
The Misssissauga Nations are keenly interested in collaborating and participating in the Games with the MNCFN. We have a grand opportunity to joint together and work as one Nation to build awareness of our rich history and culture.
