MNCFN AND FIRST NATIONS PARTNERS ATTEND SPECTACULAR PAN AM OPENING CEREMONY

The Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation hosted various first nations representatives and partners during the Pan Am Opening Ceremony. Mississauga Nations Chiefs and political representatives, along with the Regional and National Chiefs, were in attendance and celebrated the strong aboriginal cultural influence showcased within the performance. FORT YORK HOME TO MISSISSAUGA NATION CULTURAL VILLAGE DURING TORONTO 2015 GAMES

The culture of the Mississauga Nation’s will be on display throughout the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games! Fort York National Historical Site will be home to the authentic Mississauga Nation’s village that will be on display for visitors, athletes and tourists to visit throughout the games. The village will feature a traditional birch bark roundhouse, along with a variety of cultural demonstrations and authentic aboriginal crafters. Read more

THREE FIRES CEREMONY HOSTED JULY 10TH TO COMMEMORATE THE BEGINNING OF TORONTO 2015

To coincide with the beginning of the Pan Am Games, the Mississaugas of the New Credit hosted a Three Fires Ceremony to commemorate the games that will take place over the next two and a half weeks. Three separate fires were lit in three locations to honour the traditional territory and the current home of the Mississaugas of the New Credit. Read more

MISSISSAUGAS OF THE NEW CREDIT HOSTS INDIGENOUS WELCOME GALA

On the evening of July 9th, the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation welcomed over 250 attendees to an Indigenous Welcome Gala that was held on traditional territory. The event was held on the grounds of Fort York National Historical Site in downtown Toronto, and boasted the sights and sounds of a natural landscape; including trees, hide, indigenous plants, animals and furs. MISSISSAUGAS OF THE NEW CREDIT WELCOMES PAN AM TORCH

On Day 20 of the Toronto 2015 Torch Relay, the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation officially welcomed the flame to the Official Host First Nation community. A community celebration was held on June 19th and boasted various aboriginal artisans, traditional fare and live entertainment. To add to the excitement of the day, the event was hosted by hockey royalty and Coaches Corner host Ron Maclean, and Waneek Horn-Miller, aboriginal olympian and 1999 Pan Am gold medalist.

CHIEF BRYAN LAFORME FIRST TO RECEIVE PAN AM FLAME IN CANADA

On Saturday May 30th, Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation Chief, Council and community members travelled to Harbourfront Centre in downtown Toronto to officially welcome the Pan Am flame to Canada! The torch was flown from Mexico to Harbourfront Centre where it was met by canoes filled with members of the four recognized First Nations to accept the flame to the Mississaugas traditional territory.

THE PAN AM TORCH RELAY BEGINS IN TEOTIHUACAN, MEXICO

The Pan Am flame has officially begun it’s journey to Canada! The flame began its’ journey in Teotihuacan, Mexico at the Pyramid of the Sun. The ceremony featured an ancient ceremonial lighting of the torch by the Aztecs, and included a passing of the torch to the official Canadian representatives to begin it’s travel to the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games.
